National Apprenticeship Week 2025 kicks off on Monday, and that’s right up our street!

From 10th to 16th February, we’ll be dropping some truths on apprenticeships and why they are a great option for young people in Wales.

Apprenticeships… oh yeah, we are big fans!

In case I’ve not mentioned it lately 70% of young people in Wales don’t go to uni, and those that do are saddled with £30-50k worth of debt and a degree that’s not in-demand. Instead, we advocate for the Apprenticeship route which offers a great mix of hands-on experience and learning, so they can earn while they learn and pick up some actual on-the-job skills that employers need.

The Digital Skills Gap

One big challenge we're facing is the lack of apprenticeship opportunities in digital careers. As everything goes digital, the need for skills in coding, data analysis, cyber and game development is skyrocketing. But right now, there just aren't enough apprenticeships in these areas in Wales… could you imagine the career prospects for this generation if we were to be the nation that solved the skills gaps with an abundance of digital apprenticeships… oh but to dream!

Let's Raise Awareness

During National Apprenticeship Week (NAW2025), here at miFuture we will be banging the NAW drum in the aim of raising awareness of this issue, and the opportunity. We’ll aim to rally employers, local authorities, young people, parents, and teachers to support and shout about these pathways.

Inspiring Stories

What’s better than a good story? We'll be sharing some super inspiring stories from apprentices in fields like coding, construction, data analysis, engineering, marketing and game development. In the hope of inspiring people to action.

How You Can Get Involved

  • Employers: Think about offering apprenticeship opportunities, especially in digital roles. Your support can really help bridge the skills gap. If you have them available right now, let us know and we’ll share them with our network.

  • Parents and Teachers: Encourage young people to explore apprenticeships and support them in their choices. Give them the info and resources they need to make smart decisions.

  • Young People: Take the plunge and learn about the different apprenticeships available. Reach out to training providers and employers to kickstart your apprenticeship journey.

Join the Conversation

Let's make National Apprenticeship Week 2025 a time to celebrate and promote the benefits of apprenticeships. Share your stories, offers and experiences using the hashtag #AWWales2025. Together, we can at least strive for a future-ready Wales where every young person has the chance to thrive in their chosen career.
